Here's wishing you a merry christmas and a glorious new year ahead from us, the Ng family. It's been a marvellous year, many answered prayers, some hopefully to be realized next year.

At the cherry farm

We went to the Blue Hill cherry farm in the Mount Dandenong. It was fun and Jonathan took a lot of the cherries. Collin was skeptical at first but was won over by the delicious and irresistable taste of fresh cherries! The entrace per pax was $7 (half for kids) and then $7 per kilo brought out of farm. Lots of fun, highly recommended!!

Living out the dream
Time really flies. It's been one year and three months since we arrived here. So many things happened. Having a baby in a new country is no fun but I am glad we made it. I guess the epitome of our journey is when we finally move into our own place in May. Almost exactly one year after we landed here for good. Sometimes I do miss home and wish that I could have all the things I had back home: career, family support, dear friends, and good food. Over here in Melbourne, we had to start all over again with our career (I really mean start all over, as in demoted one or two levels down), virtually no family support, no friends we could really trust, and limited dining in restaurants. It's still tough in the beginning but after one year, I am glad we met some really genuinely good friends who helped us without expecting anything back. This is the moment of truth to find *friends*. Over time, I have also figure out that if we can't get Malaysian food, we need to cook them ourselves at home. It is expensive to buy imported stuff anyway, so we are slowly moving towards the western diet of chips, roast meat and spaghetti. I supposed the largest hurdle for me is still the weather. Adjusting to four seasons in a day is not easy, and more so since I started developing allergies (didn't know I had this when I was in Khatulistiwa weather back in KL) and cold every time winter comes. All in all, this is an extremely amazing journey for me, tears and joy and all... but I thank God that we are protected and sufficiently provided for, and for giving me this dream in the first place.

Going Down Under
We've packed our bags and preparing ourselves to go south. So far, all the preparations have slowly fell into place, though slight hiccups here and there.

It's ok to lose
A colleague gave my son a DVD for the movie Cars. Although it's a kid show, man, I learnt the most important lesson in my whole career from this!
In the corporate world, people only care about winning, about being number one. Cars tells the story of a racing car called Lightning McQueen wanting to win a prestigious racing competition. But in a strange twist of event, he got lost in a "dead" town and was forced to serve in a community service but he learnt life's most basic lessons: love and friendship. In the wilderness, he was doing what he hated but found that the found new friends from the town who really cared for him.
Everyday, he yearns to leave the town to go back to the racing track. He finally managed to race and he was at the very verge of winning, when he stopped right before the finishing line to reverse his car to help another car which was spun off track. Having the golden chance of being number one, he gave it up, to be number three to win a friend. What a lesson!
Sometimes, being in the corporate we think we are so smart to go up the ladder while pushing other people down. We lose friends, gain enemies, put up falsehood and fake facts to paint a rosy picture to others. Is it worth it? Well, our bank accounts may grow exponentially but not our character. So next time you want to claim credit for someone else's work or put a colleague down, think about the lessons from Cars.
